Palliative Care

What is Palliative Care?

Palliative Care is specialised care for individuals with serious, life-threatening, or life-limiting illness or injury. It aims to improve quality of life by managing pain and symptoms while focusing on the practical, social, and emotional aspects of their overall well-being. It also provides support to family members who are facing the challenges of a loved one’s diagnosis.

Our relationship with the carer, who comes every morning, is very good. She is always on time to bathe and dress my wife. She and her manager are always very helpful and can’t do enough for us. They are wonderful people, and a credit to Clarity Home Care.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Palliative Care is required when a terminal illness or life-threatening condition has been diagnosed. It is provided to people who are living with conditions like Cancer, Parkinson’s, or Dementia, for example.

Palliative Care aims to relieve serious illness or injury symptoms while improving overall comfort and well-being.

No, not exactly; End-of-life care is more intensely concentrated towards pain management and comfort. It is typically provided to individuals in the final stages of life. In contrast, Palliative Care can provide support at any stage of a life-threatening illness or injury.

Contact Clarity Homecare today to arrange a free consultation with one of our Live-in care experts. Consultations typically occur in the home of the potential recipient or at a Clarity Homecare office. Alternatively, you can have your consultation over the phone or via video call if that works better for you and your family.

There is a good chance that your loved one is eligible to have their Palliative Care fully funded by the NHS through NHS continuing healthcare. This should be discussed with the GP or the doctor in charge of their treatment. If eligible for NHS funding, you can choose to have this funding as a personal health budget.

This allows you more control over how the funding is used. For example, if your loved one would like to receive palliative care at home, they can use their health budget to fund this.

Alternatively, the cost of Palliative Care can be covered privately or by a charitable organisation.
